Zotero - Web research assistant
Think (e-Portfolio)
1. Before you began this course, what did you do (or still do) when you needed to collect, manage, and keep a record of citation details of your Web research? How effective do you think these information management strategies were?
I use Google to collect. When I manage and keep a record of citation details of your Web research, I use copy and paste.
I do not think it is the best way, however I do not know any another way.
2. In your view, what kinds of things would you want a Web research tool to be able to do?
I want some tool to make a file that have all necessary information automatically when I find information on web.
Explore (e-Portfolio)
It is easy to learn a new way to collect, manage, and cite your research sources. The video that follows explains more about Google Docs and Spreadsheets. Watch it a few times, stop and start it at critical points, take some notes. Try to identify a few things about using Zotero that could make studying easier for you. In the Zotero Quick Start Guide, under 'Introductory Screencasts', please watch 1) ztour, & 2) zdemo.
Do (ROW)
1. Have a partner. Each of you should learn to use Zotero to do two of the following things:
a) Take notes on sources
b) Tag or classify sources
c) Export an MLA formatted bibliography of sources
d) Highlight and annotate sources
2. Watch the screencasts that describe how to complete the tasks you have selected to learn. Master each task: please practice until you feel confident in your skills and understanding.
3. (e-Portfolio) During practice make brief notes that you can use to help you teach your partner what to do and how to do it.
4. You should now be ready to teach your partner what you have learned.
Explain (e-Portfolio)
Write a post reflecting on Zotero with reference to the four SCICU Key Questions.
1. What are the main skills needed to use Zotero?
That is to understand about how to use Zotero clearly. It's so useful however little difficult to use perfectly.
2. What are the affordances of Zotero (what does it make possible, what does it impede)?
We can use digital sources like analog one. If we do not care about time to use it perfectly, I suppose there is no complaint.
3. How can Zotero be used to network professionally and connect you (& other students) to learning resources?
We can use information without print off so we do not have to use many tools to get and manage information. There is a computer, it is OK.
4. What skills and understandings have you learned about Zotero that may promote your development as an effective learner in the digital age?
The skill that make work sites easily and underline in digital source are useful.
